On 14 October, we have again all went to the polls for the municipality- and provincial elections, the first two in a series of five, culminating next spring Flanders, Belgium and Europe. We have far too many officers for such a small country, is a common complaint and critics go further: If you extrapolate our situation, then China would not be less than 10.000 counting Ministers. Now they do it there with twenty Excellencies for a population of 1,4 billion.
And then there's the mayor of New York, one for mayor 8,5 million, a plurality of Brussels 19 municipalities and mayors as much for only 1,2 million inhabitants. Numbers, however, do not say anything, so we crossed our lights to political scientist Professor Doctor Johan Ackaert.
